5 Things to Know Before Your First Semester

Fall is here again, and at ĢƵ Tech, we are excited to welcome all the new students taking the next step on their academic journey with us. We know the first few weeks of college can be both exciting and overwhelming for those just starting out. To help, we have prepared this guide with useful information to make the start of your semester as smooth as possible and set you up for academic success in the months ahead.
1. Log in to Your MyDTCC Portal and Email.
The is your hub for everything ĢƵ Tech! This digital tool gives you access to a variety of resources that both enhance your experience at the College and streamline the process for receiving important information. The portal will allow you to track upcoming events, get notified about ĢƵ Tech news, explore a variety of student support resources, and stay on top of your classes.
The MyDTCC portal also provides access to your ĢƵ Tech email account, the primary method of communication between you and College faculty and staff. Whenever you have the opportunity, to discover all the resources and features available to you.
2. Learn Class Schedules and Get Textbooks
Getting to know your class schedule is the first step when preparing for the upcoming semester at ĢƵ Tech. All students can easily access a digital copy of their class schedule Just go to the blue navigation bar, select , and choose "My Student Profile" to view your courses for the semester.
To learn even more about your classes, also available through the MyDTCC portal. Your instructors will often publish welcome videos, announcements, and other helpful information in our learning management system. Your assignments will be posted and submitted in Brightspace as well.
The next thing you'll need to be ready for the fall semester is your textbooks. These can be purchased at any ĢƵ Tech Campus bookstore or online at the .
3. Getting Around Campus
Once the semester begins, you will spend a lot of time on campus, so it's important to know your way around. This will familiarize you with important resources and help you get to class with ease.
You should also know that ĢƵ Tech has four campuses throughout ĢƵ, with locations in Wilmington, Stanton, Dover, and Georgetown. Because some courses and ĢƵ are only offered at specific locations, be sure to know which campus your classes are on before the semester starts.
Every campus may look different, but you will find many of the same essential resources at each one. Some examples include a learning commons/library, a wellness center, a tutoring center, a campus bookstore, a café, and a student hub location with multiple advising services. Gymnasiums are located at both the Stanton and Georgetown campuses.

4. Available Student Support Resources
ĢƵ Tech offers a wide variety of resources to help students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom, and we encourage you to take advantage of as many resources as you need to thrive here at the College.
For additional assistance with classwork, the College offers free in-person tutoring, along with multiple student services including academic advising, career planning, mental health counseling, financial aid, and disability support. You can also find a food pantry and veterans services at each ĢƵ Tech location.
Visit your campus library or learning commons for easy access to computers, laptops, printers, private study spaces, books, and more.

5. Get Involved: Join Clubs and Attend Events
Get the most out of your college experience! ĢƵ Tech is home to dozens of student-led organizations focusing on a variety of different interests. Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, discover career-building resources, develop leadership skills, and have fun. You can learn more about clubs on ĢƵ Tech's website or stop by the "Get Involved!" fairs at each campus on Sept. 1.
