ĢƵ Tech Fall 2026 Athletics Season Gets Underway

ĢƵ Technical Community College is excited to welcome back its student-athletes for another exciting season of fall sports as the College celebrates its 60th anniversary. Stop by any game, meet, or match to cheer on the women's volleyball team, the men's and women's cross-country teams, and the men's and women's basketball teams. Volleyball

The women's volleyball team is off to a quick start, with their first match scheduled for Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. against Chesapeake College at the Stanton Campus. Ahead of their season opener, the squad has already competed in two scrimmages against Salem Community College and Goldey Beacom on Aug. 17 and 19, respectively. With a mix of freshmen and sophomore athletes, the team aims to quickly build cohesion and chemistry on the court during these early weeks.

2026 women's volleyball season schedule

Cross Country

The men's and women's cross-country teams' first meet of the season will be the University of ĢƵ Invitational on Sept. 4 at White Clay Creek State Park. The women's 5k race (5k) starts at 8:30 a.m., and the men's 6k race begins at 9:15 a.m.

Sophomores on both teams will once again be honored during a ceremony at the annual Hometown Heroes 5k on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in Rockford Park in Wilmington, and ĢƵ Tech is excited to welcome the new men's cross-country assistant coach, David King, to the team.

2026 Cross Country season schedule

Basketball

The men's and women's basketball teams will warm up with a slate of pre-season scrimmages before officially kicking off their 2026-2027 season on Oct. 31 with an away game against Prince George's Community College. Their first home game will take place on Nov. 2 against RCSJ-Gloucester at the Stanton Campus Gym. The women's game will begin at 5 p.m., and the men's game will follow at 7 p.m.

Both the men's and women's basketball seasons will continue into the winter and conclude in the spring. Schedules for both teams will be made available soon on the ĢƵ Tech athletics webpage.

Additionally, ĢƵ Tech is thrilled to announce Kevin Smith as the new head coach for the women's basketball team. Smith brings over 25 years of coaching experience to a team that delivered a string of breakout performances and wins during the previous season. He spent 12 years serving as the head basketball coach for Appoquinimink High School and is a Two-time Flight A Blue Hen Conference Coach of the Year winner. Overall, he is focused on building a competitive, disciplined, and accountable team as the season progresses.
