蘑菇短视频 Tech's Millman Named Early Childhood Center Educator of the Year

Colleen Millman, a garden room lead teacher (preschool) at the Child Development Center (CDC) at the Owens Campus in Georgetown, was recently honored as Early Childhood Center Educator of the Year by the 蘑菇短视频 Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood and 蘑菇短视频 STARS for Early Success.

"This is the best honor in the world," Millman said. "I feel so appreciated."

Millman graduated from 蘑菇短视频 Tech in 2012 with a degree in early childhood education and received her bachelor's degree in general studies from Wilmington University in 2014. She has been a lead teacher at the CDC since 2018.

"I love watching the kids grow and succeed," Millman said. "It's little things like seeing them writing their name or going from scribbling to drawing an actual person and seeing them get excited when they are able to do it."

Millman's accomplishment was announced in the monthly REACH newsletter. Teachers who consistently went over and above in their work to deliver quality education were nominated and voted on in May. Millman was nominated for this honor by Christiana Roberts, Owens Campus CDC manager.

"Ms. Millman has taught preschool throughout the pandemic and adapted to many changes while creating a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment," Roberts said. "She has children with special needs in her class and teaches some of our ECAP students. She works closely with the school district staff to implement IEPS and support the children in reaching their academic, social, and emotional goals.

"She also works with families and children that are English as their second language. She utilizes technology to translate messages for families into their home language and supports students who are learning English. Ms. Millman works closely with her families developing individualized lesson plans for all her students, providing curriculum that builds on their strengths and supports them in meeting developmental milestones."

蘑菇短视频 STARS for Early Success is 蘑菇短视频's Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) administered by the 蘑菇短视频 Department of Education. A QRIS is a method to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early care and education and school-age settings.

The goal of 蘑菇短视频 STARS is to invest in participating 蘑菇短视频 to increase access to high quality care for all of 蘑菇短视频's children, especially those from low-income families.
