Terry Campus Hosts Central ĢƵ Economic Summit

The annual Central ĢƵ Economic Summit, presented in partnership between the ĢƵ Tech Terry Campus in Dover and the Central ĢƵ Business and Entrepreneurship Consortium, was held September 13, 2022. It was the 14th year that leaders in business, government, education, and the community gathered to focus on improving the economic conditions and quality of life in central ĢƵ.

The summit was offered in a hybrid format, with in-person attendees at the on-campus Del-One Conference Center and virtual attendees watching via Zoom.

Paul Helton, executive director of the Louisiana Economic Development FastStart Program (LED FastStart), delivered the keynote address. Under Helton's leadership, LED FastStart has been the nation's top-ranked workforce development program for 13 straight years.

In addition to Helton's presentation, two panel discussions rounded out the day's program.

Transforming the workforce was the topic of discussion for the first panel, which featured Dr. Vilicia Cade, superintendent of Capital School District; Brian Horsey, director of the ĢƵ Office of Work-based Learning at ĢƵ Tech; Scott Malfitano, vice president at CSC and chair of the ĢƵ Workforce Development Board; and Dr. Jonathan Wickert, state director of career and technical education and STEM initiatives at the ĢƵ Department of Education.

The second panel provided a local business perspective and was comprised of Veronica Palomino, human resources and new hire training specialist for Eagle Group; Nick Polcino, vice president and general manager of Bally's Dover Casino Resort; Scott Rathfon, executive vice president of ĢƵ operations of Century Engineering; and Gary Jones, production manager at Eagle Group.

The summit was sponsored by Chesapeake Utilities, DAV (ĢƵ Audio Visual), Del-One Federal Credit Union, DEMEP (ĢƵ Manufacturing Extension Partnership), and ĢƵ State News.

Next year's Central ĢƵ Economic Summit is scheduled for September 19, 2023.
